“لليد”, a tribute “to the Hand”
In their workshop located in Beirut, where designers and artisans from different social and cultural backgrounds meet daily, Lyliad, a young brand of Lebanese leather goods, was born in 2020. Its creators wanted it to be upscale and in line with their values: artisanal know-how, eco-responsible awareness, good quality Lebanese confection.
Lyliad was imagined and created by designers Tania Arwachan and Nadim Zablit, eager to make the link between their experience in branding, their know-how in the manufacture of books, packaging and other printing products, and their nascent passion for leather goods. The start of the economic crisis in 2019 and then the long confinement of spring were for them a period of reflection, design and often redesign of products and objects around leather 100% made in Lebanon.
The name of the brand derives from the Arabic word “لليد”, a tribute “to the Hand” of the persons who create these goods. Lyliad also refers to Homer’s long poem; a hint to the odyssey we would like our products to embark on with you.
The materials are selected for their aesthetic and lasting qualities from Lebanese suppliers (local tanners or resellers of full grain leather tanned in Italy). Products can be personalized first by the choice of colors, but also by the hot stamping of initials, names or emblems.
Leathers are generally selected for large products. Small leather goods are then made with the scraps from the cutting, which allows the brand to follow a zero waste policy. Each product is named after the person who inspired it or who ordered the first of the series, after it was prototyped.
